ENES100 Final Project - Over Surface Vehicle
Project Overview
Collaborated with 7 other students over 3 months to design and construct an autonomous vehicle to traverse an obstacle course, plant seeds, and collect soil samples
Constraints were a budget of $320 and a maximum weight of 3 kg
The assigned mission was to navigate to a planter, deposit seeds into the viable soil (orzo), and take a sample of the unviable soil (rocks)
Responsibilities
Aided in researching and purchasing retail parts like motors
Utilized Onshape CAD to model and 3D print custom vehicle components
Helped iterate multiple designs for a dual-purpose planting and sample collection mechanism
Wrote Arduino code for controlling the seeding arm
Challenges

Creating a functional design for the seed planting and sample collecting mechanism required multiple iterations spanning weeks of testing
While the vehicle could successfully plant seeds, gather samples, and navigate the course separately, due to time constraints and planning oversights, the team was ultimately unable to get the machine to accomplish all three at the same time
